Prep Cheer
The prep cheer class is designed to educate the student about the basics of cheerleading, which include arm motions, counts, stunts, and jumps (toe touch, pike, double toe, herkies, and front hurdlers). They will also be taught some dances and cheers to challenge them on their ability to memorize and move to words and music with choreography. There will be minimal tumbling taught in this class (about 25% of the total class time).
Beginning Tumbling
The student will learn the basics of tumbling. This includes back bends, handstands, cartwheels, forward rolls, backward rolls, round-offs, and beginning back handsprings depending on the age of the child.
Intermediate Tumbling
The student will be challenged on a higher level from basic tumbling with standing and running tumbling. This includes back handsprings, back tucks, standing bridges, front and back walkovers, and connecting of skills.
*Requirement for class is back handspring with no spot.*
Advanced Tumbling
This is the highest level of tumbling. This includes multiple connecting skills, layouts, whips, fulls and double fulls.
*Requirement for class is two connecting back handsprings and back tuck with no spot.*
Trampoline and Tumbling (T&T)
This class consists of three events: trampoline, double mini-trampoline, and power tumbling. The trampoline is not your “backyard” version, but instead an Olympic style trampoline. The student is taught systematic progressions in proper form. The student will be taught the required body positions for each skill in order to successfully move on to higher and harder skills. Students who already know how to “throw flips” on recreational trampolines will have to go back to the basics and learn the proper techniques required in the Olympic sport of T&T. The double mini-trampoline, a relatively new sport, combines the run of a vault with the vertical rebound of a trampoline. Power tumbling uses an 80’ fiberglass rod floor which gives the athlete the opportunity to eventually progress to powerful and explosive connecting tumbling skills.
Required of All Classes: No jeans, buttons, or zippers. Gym shorts and t-shirts tucked in or leotards are best. Please bring light tennis shoes to all prep cheer and tumbling classes. Make sure long hair is pulled up out of the face so as not to distract the student or the instructor. No jewelry allowed (stud earrings are acceptable). No gum allowed in the gym.
